The work ranges from wall hangings to wearables. Today silk artist are using techniques based on century old processes that date back to the 4th century BC. The five participating artists are Margaret Agner, Karen Barefield, Susan Big, Agnes Oberth and Hellenne Vermillion. Some of whom may be in attendance at the Opening Reception. No longer your traditional dyed silk, today’s silk artists are using in- novative techniques to create unconventional work. In addition to corn syrup, salt, wax to common household spray starch, silk artists are using vibrant dyes to paint, sculpt, embellish and stretch the boundaries of the historical traditions. Unlike traditional oil and wa- ter based paints, silk acid dyes bond with the fiber through a long steam setting process allowing the fabric to retain its luxurious touch and give the colors a vibrancy unparalleled by other methods. This exhibition will stretch your imagination and possibly inspire you to try your own creative hand in the process.
